Beating the Heat

Sometimes I think it would be nice to have a pool.  But we have such a fleeting summer and the pool would be filled with leaves or snow the majority of the year, so I'd rather escape to the coast for the day and get a way from the house that tends to get in the way with the endless to-do's.   We head out later than the usual beach go'ers, late afternoon is the best time of the day for the beach in my opinion.
One destination is Wingersheek beach.   The best part of this beach is the hermit crabs, sand dollars and the sand bars that go on forever at low tide.  That's were you find the sand dollars.

On a particularly hot day, we'll pack a picnic for supper and watch a sunset.  I got off of work and had Chuck come up to Cape Ann with the kids and we went to Rockport for some take out, dining on the rocks near Pigeon Cove.

Or we go to Good Harbor Beach to relive my childhood beach destination.  The kids love playing in the waves here.
This year the kids attending a summer camp.  They went each day for two weeks to Camp Evergreen.  It was a day camp with an old fashioned flair for camp fun.  Jackie loved the canoeing, arts and crafts and got awarded as the best frog catcher.  Zac also loved catching frogs, archery, tether ball, any and all of the sporting activities.  We didn't take our end-of-the-summer trip to California this year.  There were too many house projects to complete this year.  We hope to get to California next year, this time exploring northern California and visiting with Aunt Arlene and Uncle Mike.
